The Best of Wigan Awards will be judged by an independent panel:


Gaynor Clarke, chief reporter for Wigan Observer and Post

Gaynor grew up in Leigh and always dreamed of a career in journalism. She started as a trainee reporter for the Bury Times in 2005 and went on to work for The Bolton News, Chorley and Leyland Guardians, and Lancashire Post. She joined the Wigan Observer and Post in 2016 and was delighted to be reporting on her hometown. Gaynor covers all kinds of news stories, from major crimes and court cases to community events, and loves that no two days are the same.

In her spare time, Gaynor is a keen runner and supports others as a qualified run leader. She also enjoys reading, yoga and a good hot chocolate.


Tony Gleave, North West Print Team

Tony has worked on the Wigan titles for more than 25 years in various roles including reporter, sub-editor, chief sub-editor, content manager and now looking after the two Wigan papers in the newly created North West print team.

Tony grew up in Warrington and started his journalistic career just down the road at the St Helens Reporter for South Lancashire Newspapers which also produced the Rugby Leaguer newspaper at the time on which he worked. Tony then had spells at a freelance agency in Manchester and the Manchester Evening News before joining the team in Wigan.

In his current role Tony has responsibility for putting both Wigan newspapers together as well as working on other North West titles in the group such as the daily titles Lancashire Post and Blackpool Gazette and many other weekly titles.

Tony is a keen follower of all sports in his spare time whether attending games or watching on television.
